چکیده

Metamaterials are an active area of interest currently due to their exotic electromagnetic properties not readily found in nature. In this report, the transmission line approach is used to design a Complementary Right Left Handed (CRLH) Transmisssion line. The characteristics of a modulated pulse propagation are studied. We look at how the variation of pulse width, centre frequency and pulse repetition frequency affects its propagation. We start with a Gaussian pulse and later move on to a rectangular pulse with appropriate rise and fall times. Finally, the device is fabricated on a FR-4 substrate with r = 4.4 and thickness of substrate = 1.56mm.

Short envelope pulse propagation in composite right- and left-handed transmission lines with regularly spaced Schottky varactors

Composite rightand left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines with regularly spaced Schottky varactors are characterized for propagation of short envelope pulses. Due to strong dispersion, a short pulse cannot travel on a conventional CRLH line without distortion. This distortion is compensated for by the effects of Schottky varactors such that the line supports solitonic pulses, whose pulse width d...

Using a VIA-Less CRLH Transmission Line to Design Compact Wilkinson Power Dividers and Rat-Race Couplers

A method for design and implementation of a compact via-less Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Line (CRLH TL) is presented. By introducing a new circuit model, the CRLH transmission line behavior is studied versus the parameters variations to achieve the desired characteristic impedance and electrical length. Then a compact quarter wavelength CRLH transmission line with 70 Ω characte...

Dual composite right/left-handed (D-CRLH) leaky-wave antenna with low beam squinting and tunable group velocity

The propagation and radiation properties of dual composite right/left-handed (D-CRLH) transmission line metamaterials are presented, and validated experimentally with a 1D microstrip prototype. In its fast-wave regime, this structure operates as a leaky-wave antenna capable of backfire-to-endfire radiation scanning with beam squinting smaller than that of conventional CRLH (C-CRLH) antennas. It...

Passive Diplexers and Active Filters based on Metamaterial Particles

Composite transmission lines are one of the main developments in the increasingly popular field of electromagnetic metamaterials, artificial electromagnetic structures with both negative electric permittivity and magnetic permeability (Caloz & Itoh, 2005). These structures present a backward wave or left-handed (LH) propagation instead of the conventional right-handed one. The first experimenta...

Using a Via-Less Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line to Design a High Compact Wilkinson Power Divider

The design and implementation method of a new via less CRLH transmission line is presented. The CRLH transmission line characteristics are explained versus the variation of parameters. The CRLH unit cell is optimized to reach the characteristic impedances as low as 30 Ohms. Finally a very compact 1-4 Wilkinson power divider is designed and fabricated.
